Interference, the second component, measures the amount of unwanted signals or disturbances affecting the reception. It includes any external noise, co-channel interference, or adjacent-channel interference that can affect the quality of the received communication.
Noise refers to undesirable signals caused by atmospheric or other natural disturbances. It can include static, atmospheric interference, or electrical noise that may hinder the clarity of the received transmission.
Propagation evaluates the radio wave propagation conditions, such as fading, multipath interference, or signal distortion, that can affect the overall quality of reception.
Lastly, overall merit rates the general quality of the received signal, taking into account all the factors mentioned above. It provides an overall assessment of the communication quality, considering the signal's strength, interference, and noise, as well as the propagation conditions.
