Camogie is a traditional Irish team sport played predominantly by women. It is very similar to hurling, but played exclusively by women and with some variations in rules and equipment. The sport involves two teams, each consisting of 15 players, who use a hurley (a wooden stick with a flat end) to strike a small leather ball called a sliotar into a goalpost or over a crossbar, scoring points accordingly. The objective of the game is to score more points than the opposing team within the allocated playing time.
Camogie is known for its fast-paced nature, physicality, and skillful techniques. Players are allowed to carry the sliotar in their hand for a maximum of four steps before they must either bounce it on the hurley or strike it. Unlike in hurling, there are no body tackles in camogie, however shoulder-to-shoulder challenges are permissible. The game demands agility, accurate striking, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
